Hi,
I am newly retired and trying new things and renewing old interests. I love photography, but sadly am not great at it! Since I am now retired I plan on doing some traveling and of course taking pictures. I also look forward to looking at photos from people who are "great" at photography! So that's me and enough said! Look forward to seeing and hearing from others.
The nice thing about photography is that, if you're not a pro, you don't have to be good at it. Set your camera on Auto and concentrate on getting good composition. let the camera worry about the settings. As time goes on, you can switch to A, for Aperture priority. Just enjoy the hobby. If you are supercritical of the pictures you take, it won't be fun. This is why I don't play golf. I know how "good" I am at it.
Welcome to UHH. This is a great site to learn and share all about photography. As Jerry said, start with Automatic mode and go from there.
Welcome! You have found a great site to help you. Most members are very helpful and their work can be very informative.
Welcome to the Hog, enjoy.

Welcome to the forum. Please do not disparage yourself about your photographic abilities. Often the only difference in being a bad photographer, a mediocre photographer, and a good photographer is nothing more than just doing. Make sure you have a couple of pieces of decent equipment (not that you have to spend a fortune on equipment), and just start shooting. The more you shoot, the more you will see how your vision of what you wanted to capture is evidenced by what you actually captured in the camera. By comparing the two and learning why they aren't the same, you will sharpen your skills. Most of us on this forum aren't Ansel Adams or Margaret Bourke-White, but there are many really good photographers with many years of experience and you will be able to tap into that experience in several ways. We can teach you how to select suitable equipment for what you want to shoot, answer questions about processing your shots, and you can use the critique area of the forum to post shots and let the group help you make those shots better. Best of luck with your retirement. I also retired a couple of years ago and for about three months I felt like I was a fish in a bowl -- it felt so strange to get up and not have to go anywhere! After that I've become so busy doing things like improving the house, being on line, watching sports on TV, going out to do some photography etc., now I wonder how on earth I ever worked 40 hours a week and still had time to do any of the things I do now. Happy Retirement!
Welcome. Take lots of pics and post and have fun.
Welcome aboard. I suggest you get some good books on digital photography. I personally have several books by pro photographer and author Scott Kelby. His writing style is like he's actually having a conversation with the readers and he explains thing in a way that makes it easy to understand and pleasant to read, and there are lots and lots of explained photographs in his books. To be honest, I've learned a little about photography here on UHH, but I've learned a lot from Scott Kelby's books. Start with his The Digital Photography Book series. They are well worth their cost.
Welcome, there are some great people here that can be very generous with their time and in providing helpful comments.
Welcome to the forum. Hoping you have a healthy and happy retirement.
Welcome to the UHH. many helpful folks. Retirement only means that now you will be busier than before you retired. Photography is a good hobby to fill that time.
Welcome to the forum.
