Awaiting for the delivery of my new Z camera and FTZ but want to use my Tamron 100-400. Currently, it has data in it from the Tap in console ( the figures are wild, 0 to +12 thro the zoom range) so do I use it at zero or leave the settings in or does it not matter? I would prefer data to stay in the lens so I can use it with other F mount cameras.

Possibly best to leave it as is, try it out and analyze the results. Would be a pain to have to keep changing it between cameras.

You shouldn’t need AF correction with the Z, which is a MILC body. No idea if leaving it in will affect the Z’s AF though.

As a suggestion update to the FTZ II it's same price as FTZ and doesn't have bottom as FTZ has.

Since mirrorless cameras don't use a focus sensor like a DSLR, you focus directly onto the cameras sensor. As a result, there is much less likelihood that lens adjustments will be necessary. If you use your adjusted Tamron lens on your Z camera, depending on what you're shooting and your expectations, you may not be happy with some of the results you get. If that should happen, try resetting the Tap-in settings for your lens to zero and test again.

The adjustments to a particular lens on a DSLR, if needed at all, almost always varies from camera body to camera body. In my experience correctable focusing problems tend to be more obvious on wide aperture lenses and when shooting low contrast subjects. Stopping down a wide aperture lens often tends to improve the focus because of the greater depth of field. Sometimes softness on a long telephoto lens when used handheld is a result of technique more than the need for a lens adjustment.

if you are happy with the current adjustments to your Tamron lens on multiple bodies, you are probably not a pixel peeper and your lens correction expectations may not be that high. In that case, just put the corrected lens on your Z and see if you're happy with it

If I recall correctly, on some cameras, the older version of the FTZ can occasionally even get in the way. I certainly will stand corrected if I'm wrong, but I believe I recall reading a review of the Z9 which discussed that very issue.

You can create a profile for each camera and save it in a file on you computer. Then you can use the tap in console to load the file to match the lens you’ll be using that day.

I used it once for FW upgrade of Tamron 24-70 f2.8 G2. I did not make any changes or adjustments and the lens started to work on my Nikon Z6 with a good results.

If you just updated the firmware it wouldn’t affect the focus, only if you used it to calibrate the focus.

Spend money to lose the tripod socket ? I know people spend money to lose weight and THAT is smart. But this ???? Nope.

If you use a light lens you probably don't need that additional socket. If you have a long, heavy lens, it probably comes with one. Either way, the FTZ tripod socket may mostly be redundant.
