I just purchased a new Pc for my old one has reached its limits. It
was not able to run some of the new Ai software that is out there My problem is with Adobe. I have CS 5 Yes; I know it’s ancient but I I can do all I need to with that program. Over the years I bought almost every upgraded version up to cs5.
This is what I went through. Called Adobe, reached a woman from India. Could not understand her accent and the connection were so bad buzzing and cutting out. I had to repeat the serial number at least 5 times never getting thru it. It was 15 minutes of, what I can’t hear you can you please repeat that again…. what was that last number? Finally, she said, call back and try again maybe you will get a better line. So, I did……. guess what? Another woman same situation. What the heck is going on here? This lasted only a few minutes and I said strongly let me speak to a person in the US. So, she gave me this number call hoping to speak with a person who I can understand. Called the number and it is a man from India, no this can’t happen. Really? I could at least understand him, but he was no help.
Sorry for this rant I was really frustrated.
My question is I have the serial number and the Cd from CS5. It will download onto my new PC and when I put in the Serial number it recognizes it as being good but does not offer any way to open it, does anyone have an idea how to solve this or have a work around?
Thank you all in advance.

Adobe offers "Chat" for support. I seldom call.

You're trying to install software that went unsupported in 2014. If you were on an Apple platform, you'd never be able to install the software again as Apple doesn't permit this older style software to install / operate on their modern systems.

What's unclear is what problem are you trying to solve. Are you saying you do / do not have valid installation files? Reading the final paragraph, it seems maybe you have what is needed to install? Try two items, if applicable:

1) Un-install what you've done so far. Then, start the install again, but right-click the install EXE / MSI and select "Run as Administrator" rather than just clicking the file to start the install.

2) If you can get the install to run to completion, when you get to the point to run the software, again right-click and "Run as Administrator".

See if these ideas change the software behavior. But honestly, now in Feb 2022, you likely need to begin to consider a replacement software. You've rung all the economic value out of your Adobe investment, a full 8-years after Adobe stopped updates and support to the package. But, because hardware and software move on, the day this software no longer runs / installs may have finally arrived. It's highly unlikely you'll find anyone at Adobe to talk to in any timezone / country who will provide technical support to help with getting the old software to install.

Good info Paul. With what you said I doubt even finding a version of CS6 would install either. The OP obviously doesn't want to subscribe to PS CC. Do you think purchasing PS Elements might be at least as good as CS5 for him?

PSE will overlap a lot, certainly with all the usage experience. What's missing is what type of image files are being used. For RAW, obviously only cameras through about 2014 are still supported by the ARC version compatible with CS5. For JPEG, the 8-bit limit of PSE layer-based tooling might present a limiting difference vs the older full-power PS / CS5 tools.

PSE is probably price competitive to other titles. A quick list of ideas, if useful / helpful

GIMP - a 'free' version of open-source tools probably very similar to CS5
Skylum Luminar - no subscription, but no free trial either. Can be refunded within 30-days
On1 Photo - another no subscription option
Capture One - purchase option, as well as subscription model
DxO PhotoLab - purchase options at two price tiers

The current version of PSE will open / edit all historical RAW cameras through the year of release, the product is now named by year like PSE-2021. You can do all the traditional ACR updates on RAW and a lot of the global edits in PSE, maintaining the higher bit-depth. It's only when you launch a layer-based tool that PSE forces the data to the 8-bit format, the same as a JPEG.

You might also consider installing Canon’s Digital Photo Professional (free). Not a full featured editor, but an excellent raw converter with simple editing functions for Canon raw files, and you can export to a more full featured pixel editor if needed. You can download from Canon’s US or European sites - have your camera serial number handy as you’ll need it.

I think you just gave me an idea Paul.

I am still using PS CS6 but as you said, I cannot open raw files from newer cameras. Also, to complicate things I cannot get DNG to open raw files on my computer. My computer is a 2010 MacPro desktop which cannot run the new PS CC, and not anything older than 2019 so I dropped my subscription for an outdated PS CC program.

Now, the idea. I buy a version of PS Elements to open my raw files from my new camera. And then I save the files to my desktop and open them in CS6 version of Adobe Camera Raw on my Mac Pro. The Elements version of ACR I don't need and is too limited for me.

The ACR versions are not plug-n-play nor interchangeable. That is, ACR in PSE-2021 is v12.3 (can be updated to v13). This ACR cannot be used to replace the last compatible version of ACR for CS6, v 9.1.1.

You might test two ideas to refine the idea of your post:

a) Save the PSE output to a DNG. See if CS6 can open that DNG. See if you can control the DNG version, setting to v7.1.

b) See if saving the ACR edits to a side car XMP lets the RAW open into the old CS6 ACR. I don't see how / why this would work, but it's a small effort to try.

And of course, you can save the RAW out to a 16-bit TIFF in ProPhotoRGB and then open into CS6.

I have always used chat to talk to them. Their written English is just fine. To get the ball running I use Word to describe all the info about my hardware, software and my problem. I simply cut and paste it into the chat session when it opens up. Yes the spoken word is usually better but although slower, text, will eliminate the language frustration. The last three chat sessions I had were all what I'll call Indian first names. I can only guess the center is across the pond. I had good results with the chat process. Food for thought!

Sometimes it is frustrating to understand people who don't speak English. Well, at least the American version. How many Americans speak a different language and are able to be knowledgeable about various products?

Just wondering if your telephone issue with the Indian CS staff was on your end, not theirs. VOIP can sometimes be flaky, and depending on your cell coverage, your end of the call might have been a bit garbled.

A bit off topic here, but the new masking capabilities of up to date LR are well worth just having a subscription...people are yammering about "going to the next level" but that feature alone, has changed my photography. I am going back to my old photos and re-processing...and they are better. It is seamless, robust, etc. For $10 a month...an amazing deal. My computer blew up, I got a new one, downloaded lr and ps and was off and running.

Skip the machinations of using old tech. Opinion only, of course.
