Odd effect

I was playing with my Samsung Galaxy J2, running the Hypocam app, with the red filter. (and HG01 texture FWIW) Early afternoon, clear sky, facing easterly. No ice on the trees, no wind.

My question is, What /why are there halos around the trees? Some are evergreens, others are deciduous. The effect is kinda cool, but what is it? Other shots taken later do not always show this effect.

Thanks,
--Rich

That certainly looks strange. Maybe it was just a hiccup from the app. As you probably know, sometimes apps crash and have to be restarted. I noticed in the apps information, there hasn't been a version update for over a year. Has it happened more than once?

I'm a iPhone user, so I don't have any experience with the app you used. The affect looks similar to the halos that happen when shooting HDR and the final image is over processed. It can look interesting, but my experience is that most professionals and critics think its a sign of improper processing.

OK, thanks all!
Looks like I'll need to do some research with my photo apps.
MrMophoto - HDR effects without using HDR? Whoopee! πŸ˜‰ The only processing I did was size reduction. The effect is there in the original. πŸ€”

Gonna look some more tomorrow. It's about 0300 GMT, so... 😴

It’s a digital artifact. I have gotten odd results called artifacts, using digital cameras. Both with smartphone cameras and, less often, with DSLRs.

Or you were facing the west at sunset.

Just kidding, first thought before reading details.

Yeah, I'm going to go with this. A combination of filters and time of day. (Oh, well, there goes the "free HDR"!😒 😁) I got a chance to re-take the pix yesterday, but a couple of hours later. Same phone, filters, app. No halos. (Were the trees bad so they lost their halos? 😲)

Thanks again, everyone!
