This is the first of several photos I will be taking over the next couple of days before I have too return it. I love the wood color of this instrument. Trying for creative still life mood shots. Thinking small areas of the violin is the best way to get dramatic images. Open for suggestions.
Great idea. Since you have this for a while, are you open to focus stacking? The bridge is fuzzy....unless intended. If you can get the entire part of the violin in focus, that could be a cool thing to try. Or maybe check the hyper focal distance on this lens? I didnt see that in the meta data. I am a neophyte on stacking and the technical side of the hyperfocal range stuff, so take it with a grain of salt...others probably may have more ideas.
Hogs?
Thanks you, I went back in to take some more shots but lost my light. I'm trying to use natural light through some blinds. I'm going to have to wait till tomorrow morning.
Btw, I am the moderator of this group but not a pro or even an A player. So it’s just my opinion
Looks like a great project Jim but I think you're in a Catch 22. To get more DOF you need a smaller aperture, which means more light and/or a slower shutter speed or combination of both. Good luck with tomorrows light, I can't wait to see the results
suggestion, tuning pegs and scroll. i love the light reflecting off the strings as they cross the bridge but everything is a little soft. the focus stacking suggestion seems like a valid choice for this body shot.
I think the picture is all over a bit blurry? I couldn't find a point of focus to work out your DOF, but this has not reduced the drama, although I have a feeling that the effect would increase if it were possible to include the bow.
Wonderful lighting!

I wouldn't know where to place the bow and then have an additional item that would cause a focus problem.
I pretty much like what you have accomplished here. It looks nice. But I think with some effort you can do a much better photograph. I would try to photograph the entire instrument using a wide angle lens with the violin tilted somewhat, not a lot, toward the camera. I like the natural light a lot. I would also open the shadows on the other side of the violin as well. If you are able to do these things I think you could have a prize winning photograph. I believe another member mentioned the bow. If you could include it even by leaning it across the violin I also think it would help with the excellence of your photograph.
These are only suggestions. As I said I like this photograph but I would use a smaller aperture for increased depth of field.
I wish you good luck,
Dennis
Very nice lighting and mood. Perhaps a little more of a diagonal rather than horizontal might have led me into the picture a little more.
