I photographed these some years back and never did anything with them. I still like them. Unfortunately, I don't know the plant names. I tried the Google lens program, and it gave me conflicting information. So if you can help with names (common and/or scientific), I'd appreciate it. Where's Dixie Girl? She always knows these things!

There is an app called Garden Answers. You take a pic thru the app and it matches you with like pictures. Works reasonably well.

Yes, that one I know. We were staying at the Black Orchid Hostel, and they have LOTS of these beautiful things. Interestingly, they aren't really black but deep purple, for the most part. But when seen with the naked eye, they look black.

Thanks, Mike! Yes, clamshell orchid is another name for the Belizean black orchid. Tropical dogwood seems logical. I've never heard of the bloodwood tree. My guess is that the sap is red? Thank you so much.

I use an app called Leaf Snap on my smart phone to ID plants and flowers. They have a free and paid version.
