I saw this moth in the flower after a shower of rain. I liked the drop of rain on it's head.
Trying to keep dry
Moth or beetle? I cannot determine.
I see no proboscis, antennae, nor wings. The mouth parts look designed for chewing, not nectar sipping.
I am sure it is a Large Yellow Underwing only 25mm long. I will send the picture to my local Wildlife Trust expert and get back to you on this.
Hi Nikonian72. I found this picture of the Broad-bodied yellow underwing and that is what I based my moth identification on. On mine the antennas are tucked under the wings and it has the stripes on the front legs. It is hairy as well and has the point at the front of its head and also going on the size. If any one has another idea on what this might be I would be interested. My friend in the Wildlife Trust is away at the moment.
Not my picture

I initially missed seeing those big brown eyes. I thought the dark color was background, and this insect's head was a narrow wedge-shaped snout. You are correct.
Thanks Nikonian 72, it was a damp overcast day, I have since got a ring flash which had I had it then I might have got a better picture
