A Head and Foot Sculpture

When I was in Italy several years ago, I came across this artwork. It was in a courtyard. I just happened to see it. Most people passing by did not even know it there since it was behind a tall wall. Yesterday while walking back to my house, I came across rock salt that had been scattered over the sidewalk. Rock salt is easy to find since we have had plenty of snow and ice lately. But it was the pattern that caught my eye. I figured I would use it as a textured layer, at some point So playing in PS, I came up with this final image.

First of all, I really like your original image, especially the center piece. I'm sure you are aware of this but if not, I will mention it. The rock salt image makes a great overlay texture. Using Photoshop's Blend IF feature you can adjust how much of the white or how much of the black areas you want coming through to your base layer. Doing an Alt click on the white slider or black slider will split the slider to enable you to further feather the effect.

I am aware of how blend IF works. But did not consider it when working on this composite. I will have to play around with it and see how it looks.

The first photo is one of ancient ruins recently uncovered in the sands of the desert, perhaps 11,000 years old. The last photo is a ho-hum ok photo.

For those like me who need to be educated in blending by a wooden spoon or by digital mixer...

I hadn’t thought of it as an unearthing an ancient ruins. But what the heck I can go along with that train of thought.
