A Barn from the Other Day

I posted this edited photo in the gallery the other day and am re-posting it here, along with the original raw shot. I began editing in Lightroom, did a little more in Luminar 4 and Topaz, and finished in Nik Silver Efex.

I’m interested in your critiquing comments, especially what I could have done to make the final image better. Repost not OK. -- John, aka jaymatt

I like it and the use of B&W adds to the mood of the image.

Not a valid comparison. The photos have too much different composure to be fairly evaluated. The addition of the quonset in bottom left changes everything.

The finished photo is an evolution of the posted original raw file.

I really like the B&W. Not sure I could do anything to make it better - only different, maybe. I find the colour image to have lost detail - particularly in the structure of the barn.

Good treatment for a traditional barn/winter shot. The horse peeping round the corner is a good extra feature. My only criticism would be to try to avoid the large plain area of the roof by bringing out a bit more detail there.

Thanks, R.G. I tried, but it just wasn’t there, at least with the tools I have.

I like the treatment and the crop. The photo looks old old old...very nice.

Twer I to do post on it, I would try to bring out some highlights on the roof, just a bit. And when cropping, I would us the PS perspective crop tool to slightly try to get the fence parallel / straight across the image rather than at an angle. It might (not sure) improve the image a bit.

Overall, I like this image a lot ...well done.

Thanks. I tilted the photo to get the fence level, and it threw the barn off and made it look cockeyed. So, that was a no-go for me. As for the roof, I agree but don’t have the processing tools to do that.
