this orb weaver is the largest i have seen in a long time.big spiders are scarce this year.maybe to many spider wasps.tom

Most likely a mature female "Jewel" Orbweaver (Araneus gemma).

an estimate 1/2" wide 1" long
she was always in a ball,would like to see her on her web.i went to the spot thurs morning and saw she had made a web after i took the pics but it was tattered from the wind and she was back under her leaf.tom

2nd looks almost the same color is a lot different in the 1st.
