I’m a long-time Nikon user. Got a Leica Q2 about a year ago and virtually gave up using D850, now thinking of getting M11 and apo 35mm sumicron.
Thoughts?

I also have a Q2 which I absolutely love and it helped me depart the Sony A7r II. The other Leica I own and really love is the SL2. I have the Leica APO Summicron SL 35/2 lens and to me, the Q2 is actually a bit better! I'm pretty sure I must not be using the 35L to it's full potential, and it IS beautiful to use and the IQ is stellar. Just to me the Q2 is actually a bit better! Can that be true really?

My other lenses for the SL are an assortment of Sigma and Panasonic Lumix covering 15mm/1.8 to 150-600. Being a birder, long lenses are essential!

I am also intrigued by the Leica M mainly for its heritage. The SL2 and Q2 probably are its equal in the rather narrow focal length that a rangefinder is really good for and have the huge advantage of being able to use longer and shorter lenses with auto focus. I have recently been shooting the Q2 in manual focus using focus peaking and find that is really great for close distances. More than 47 megapixels is not that important to me at this point.

Of course, you could do the same with the M11 if you add the visoflex! But that kind of ruins the esthetic of the classic M to me at least!

Just my two cents for your consideration!

Not to change the subject but, how do you like the SL2 AF?

I absolutely LOVE it! And with the new Sigma 150-600 Sport line L mount lens it is great for birding! When I pick up either the SL2 or the Q2 I think, WOW what a great camera! And I love that the user interfaces are virtually identical! AF on both seems as fast to me as it was on my now abandoned Sony A7r cameras. I guess based on some reviews it is not as fast as the Sony, but even for birds in flight, it is fast enough for me!

I've allowed my Nikon kit to collect dust since I bought the Leica Q2. It takes some rethinking but the simplicity of the Q2 menu system, ability to move quickly from Program to full Manual and JPG image quality SOOC or processed DNG has rekindled my candid photography.
