I was out the other day and someone asked if my camera was a Nikon 1000. I was not familiar with a 1000 and looked it up. When I saw the price, I knew I would never have one, without winning the lottery! Do any of you have experience with one?
Nikon makes 2 model 1000. A P1000 and an A1000. The P1000 is $1000 and the A1000 is $500. I wouldn't think either price would need someone with a wining lottery to buy. But of course each has his/her own budget. I would think I don't have a camera if I can't afford $1000 for a camera.
I had a good year in the stock market (my "job" since retirement) in 2018 so bought myself one for my birthday the next month as most of my photography is travel, more USA vs international obviously of late. It is a heavy, bulky camera, but oh the reach! It is actually reasonably priced compared to any separate lens in that zoom range. I don't use it that often but glad to have it when needed, especially with wild life in parks, etc. And your post made me look it up, amazed still going for 10-20% over Sept 2018 intro of $999.

Thanks! I clicked on one link that had one listed for $1300.00! Your info is the kind I was looking for.
I have the P1000 and love it. It's a bit heavy, so I still use my P900 even more. I take it every where I go. If you want a nice camera that has a good zoom built in, buy a used OR refurbished one on Ebay for a lot less money. The zoom is good enough for wildlife you can't get close to and many bird shots too. Refurbished already have all the kinks removed and won't cost an arm and a leg! Best wishes.
I have a friend that purchased the Nikon Coolpix A1000. It is does not have a changeable lens. Has a 24Mb sensor, shoots RAW and ran about $500. Great for trips.

Didn't want to mislead, I like the P1000, just very heavy and bulky compared to my preferred Sony but the Nikon is an exceptional bridge camera. Also has an automatic Moon or Bird Watching setting. PM me if any particular questions.
