Digital vs. Film for News Agency Photos

Some years ago after a scandal about some press photos (taken on film I think) being cropped before publication in order to evoke sympathy or further a point of view or agenda one major news outlet or press agency banned the use of telephoto lenses by its staff and any alteration of the original photo so that all context and background could be seen. The negatives when reviewed showed additional detail and context not evident in the published photo. With all press photos these days being taken with digital there is no negative on which to fall back. Negatives are difficult to alter. Who or what do we trust?

I trust that my Tin Foil Hat prevents mind control by governments, spies, mobsters, corporations, and paranormal beings that employ ESP. Especially now, that hat is beneficial against this new mind-controlling 5G network.

A photograph is never reality regardless how you do it. You must consider a photograph is what the photographer want you to see.
