NikonZ6ll

I own the Z6 and am very pleased with its performance. I have been a Nikon devotee for (oh my!) 52 years. For short periods, I tried Fuji and Olympus but came home to Nikon. I have compared, on paper the Z6 to the Z7. I am not interested in the Z7. Now to my question: what would inspire me to move to the Z6ll? I have compared the two and I cannot find compelling differences, except to be driven by GAS.

No, there's no point in upgrading. You already have a mirrorless marvel: 24MP full-frame, IBIS-enabled, silent shooting. The newer Z6II camera gives a second card slot and better action AF tracking, not something that your primary uses will benefit. The Z7II gives all these same features with the massive 45MP sensor. You have a pro-grade camera that will never need a replacement until it dies of old age.

It's really quite simple. If you can afford the camera you want, then buy it. If you can't afford it, there's nothing wrong with what you have. We're not talking need here, just want. There is only one variable to consider in this situation. Whether or not you can afford it. I personally have way more camera gear than I need. If I wanted something I asked myself, can I afford it. Pay no mind to those who tell you, don't upgrade, or whatever, because there's nothing wrong with what you have. If that were the case, there would be way fewer camera manufacturers and models to choose from. It's not GAS if you can afford it. It's simple you purchasing what you want.
Bottom line; if you can afford it, and want it, it's strictly up to you if you buy it. Enjoy your new camera, if you decide to buy it.

The Z6ii is a significant update to the Z6, not an upgrade. The newer model offers some key benefits, but those need to be evaluated against a Z6 that has been fully firmware-updated, because those updates provided significant additional performance and features also. Whether the difference benefits you is not for us to decide in either direction. My suggestion is that you visit the Nikon USA website. Read carefully what the Z6ii offers and compare it to your Z6. If you don't see a meaningful difference, I'd take that as a sign that there's no reason to update your camera. Here's the link:

I too have a Z6. But I am not considering a II because I don't want or need two cards now that I have both an xqd and a cf for it.

On the other hand a Z7 interests me because they now have refurbs. While the Z6 takes pretty good images I feel the images I took with my D800 were noticeably sharper. Possibly because I tend to crop my wildlife images. Because of that I tend to use the Z50 on wildlife because of the crop factor giving me 24 MP on the DX image area where the full frame Zs are less than half that. I can afford a Z7 II but my frugality and disinterest in a second card slot make that an unlikely choice. I might do it for a few hundred $ just thinking of resale.

The only difference I like is the SD card slot. Not because I want two slots; just because the cards are much cheaper.

I don't know if the second processor does anything for you.

The Z6II has better low light capability. The Z6 autofocus is rated to work down to -3.5EV. The Z6II is rated to work down to -4.5EV. The Z6II has dual Expeed6 processors which helps to speed up autofocusing. The dual memory cards is a big plus. When I'm out with my D500, I always use both memory cards. You can set the second memory card to back up, overflow, or you can save RAW files to one card and .jpeg files to the second card.

Not enough difference in the models, you are correct grasshopper.
If your willing to wait, Nikon is famous for putting the guts of their newest flagship (the Z9 in this case) into less expensive models.
I believe Nikon will do this in less than 16 1/2 months. My best guess.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

IMHO, there is not enough difference between the Z6 and the Z6 II FOR ME to upgrade. I have a pair of Z6 bodies and (soon) a pair of Z9's. Lots of differences between those two! Best of luck.

The Z6 II has a second card slot, more processing power and can accept a fully functioning grip. The original Z6, with its most recent firmware update, is a fantastic and very capable camera. Personally, if it were my money, I would invest in good Z lenses (if you haven't already) and wait to see what the next Z6 iteration includes (perhaps some technology from the Z9). I have the Z6 and have no plans to upgrade to the Z6 II because I don't need a second card slot, don't use a grip and have no problems with the focusing speed or system.

Read closely Thom Hogan's Z6 review - pay particular attention to his very last paragraph.

Oh, I have a Z6, with latest firmware - happy bunny here in England ! Just concentrate on your own personal use and decide.

For your info, Z7 has 19.5MP in DX mode, not half of Z50 as you stated.
