I went to Monroe lake, Southern Indiana to try to find eagle and take photos of it in last weekend. During my searching eagle, suddenly I noticed a gray heron passing. Quickly I took a few photos of the gray heron. With combination of Nikon D850 + Nikkor 500PF, it is easy to aim it and take photos of it. Waiting for my new toy Z9😀. Thanks in advance for your viewing and comment if any.
Yes, two great captures of a GBH. Their plumage can vary in color. And bird common names are often just fanciful. Unlikely it is a rare visiting European Grey Heron that is smaller and lacks the brown on its flanks. On your capture you can just see a little Brick-red brown. Do you have any other images revealing other portions of the bird's body? It is rather out there to expect a rarity for a common similar species. But your captures are really cool regardless of ID.
