I wonder how many people use a caliper gauge to see if their batteries are starting to bulge.
That might catch them before they get stuck in the camera.

That's why I don't. The lottery is a game for math-challenged people.

I'm not into the $1000+ cameras so what I say won't probably matter. I have a Canon PowerShot ELPH 360 HS. The battery and charger that came with the camera are both inferior to the PowerTrust batteries and chargers that I also get from Amazon. The Canon batteries are 800 mAh and the first charger that I got about six years ago for an ELPH 340, failed after two years. The PowerTrust batteries are 1200 mAh and therefore last about 1.5 times longer before needing a charge. I bought these from Amazon. Some of these batteries are about five years old and I've never had a problem with a single one.

I need to buy an extra battery for a Nikon D750. Battery is EN-EL15 or EN-EL15A. The OEM Nikon battery is quite expensive ($69 at B&H).

There are other suppliers through Amazon that have better prices and are likely good batteries. One is Wasabi (2 for $26) another is a no-name, but highly rated (1 for $17).

Are after-market batteries worth buying? Any recommended brands? Thanks!

I have 3 Wasabi batteries that I have been using since 2015, and they are all still working well.

No offense to aftermarket users but I have been purchasing Nikon cameras, lenses, batteries, etc. for 50 years and have never been disappointed with any of their products and am, therefore, committed to OEM products. I currently shoot with a D5 and would never consider putting any other brand of battery in it. Just adding my experience and opinion to the topic.

The Canon R5 let’s you know instantly when you insert a non Canon battery. You can select to use it anyway. My own experience with aftermarket batteries is mixed. I had one that started to insert with some difficulties ( swelled ) which I then discarded. Generally I do not get as many shots as with the original. When you invest that amount of money in a top notch camera, why take the risk for the relative few dollars saved?
I will stick with the original ones. IMHO

Funny I have the R5 and R6 and the neither one gives a note about non Canon batteries. I use Wasabi and Watson. What batteries are you using and is it the old LP6N?

The B&H battery at $69.00 is the EN-EL15c - I purchased one few weeks ago from them. It was $72.00 on sale for $69.00. This is the newest model and fits the D750 (my camera) it lasts almost double the time of the old EN-EL15. Of brands I had a Wasabi that last me less than one year. I would not by a no-name - you are risking a battery leak in your camera and that would cost you a plenty $$$ to fix. I would stay away from off brands.

I wonder how many people know what a caliper gauge is.

I have four of them: one calibrated in SAE (inch fractions), one that is SAE in inch decimals. one in metric and one that is digital in both SAE and metric.

And how many believe it is only safe to use a Nikon caliper gauge on a Nikon battery!
