When fins were IN. What a great era in cars.

I had that pink and black 57 Mercury with a Turnpike Cruiser V8 in it. It went like the wind. This is been a great series, but I'm sorry you didn't have any pictures of any of the wonderful Chrysler vehicles from that era.

Max, you keep asking about '57 Mopars (my favorites also) and it reminds me of a friend in high school. His dad had a '57 DeSoto for sale. It was a red and white "Fireflite" coupe and it was gorgeous! By the time I got the money together ($250) it was sold. Of all the cars that I've had (and I've had many) that is the one I wish I had today. And, by the way, all of those finned Mopars are going for a pretty penny today. Oh well...

I see them advertised in Hemmings, and drool. I haven't responded to each of your posts, but have been enjoying them immensely. Great photography.

I always find the Canadian version of Fords interesting, as I do this one. Thanks KT.

Look at the bumpers on these cars. They're enormous! How many times "back in the day" did you push a car to get it started or get it off the road ? "Do the bumpers line up?" OK, let 'er rip. A common occurrence. I've often wondered if bumpers would make a come back. I doubt it. There's way too much money to be made on repairs of dents, dings and scratches on modern "bumperless" cars. I love chrome...bright shiny chrome and for years manufacturers kept stripping the chrome away until recently it's been making a comeback. And wheels (I'm going to make enemies here...sorry) what's with new modern cars and expensive "supercars" even, with BLACK wheels !!! I PERSONALLY find them appalling!!! I know I'm old, but... a beautiful Lamborghini Aventador with BLACK wheels...YUCK!!!! To me it looks like someone took a $5 can of spray paint to the wheels !! So many beautiful cars with BLACK wheels !!!! I feel much better, thank you.
I always find the Canadian version of Fords intere... (show quote)

Black wheels on a car used to be an indication that the owner was too lazy to clean off the brake dust!

I have always thought 55 to 57 were the greatest years Detroit ever had for wonderful cars. That goes for all makes and models. Think Studebaker, Hudson, Packard, and Nash also because these years were pretty much their last gasp for life.

I started first year of high school in September, 1956. Across the street from the high school was the Ford dealership. When the '57 Fords arrived we high schoolers would go across the street and got the first look of the new Fords in the back of the dealership before they were put on display.

My favorite Chevy and Corvette.
Noticed the tomato red and white Chevy as Dagmars on the front bumper.

Great pictures, but the last one is a Pontiac Safari, cousin of the Chevy Nomad.
