Ricoh Pentax

I just got the online Pop Photo post. They have a headline story that Ricoh-Pentax in Japan is considering
for its home market discontinuation of mass produced cameras. It will allow customers a choice of
customizing their purchases. If I remember correctly, they mentioned that this is similar to the niche market
approach that Leica has used. This is a bit confusing to me. The article stated that cameras in the N. American- World market will be mass produced. Stay tuned?.

Customer random customization of products did not work well for long for Gateway 2000 Computers. Chip Sets, Memmory Modules, Cards, Mother Boards, Drives need to planned and thought through to work well. Imagine a random camera. I could see them making Pentax cameras on order at the time you order it. Some manufacturers operate like that but not not usually for consumer goods. Some high end medical products are likely build on order.

I read the same thing about Ricoh’s latest nonsense about its business plans. The simple fact is clear: they refuse to provide marketing and sales support for even their best photographic products, so they try to make a virtue of admitted to doing nothing!

Bullshit!

I would like to see a more Ricoh/Pentax related forum. Not just Nikon/Canon.

I merely passed on what I read. There was a photo of a K body DSLR to show what can be done with the
customization of a Pentax camera. The top plate was white the pop up flash door was red, the main body
was in camouflage, the bottom plate was black maybe yellow. All I can say is Yikes!.

I have gotten the same message fro Ricoh. It is confusing. I thought it indicated the they were closing the camera division. And buy mass marketing they were talking about the GIII cameras. Elimination of Pentax?
