D200 for IR Conversion?

I find myself with a D200 in great condition( >20K shutter clicks) that I should sell. I will get such a small amount, I hate to sell it.
Thinking about converting it for IR shooting. Anyone here that may have done that, or any thought Pro or Con. I know someone will have something. Thanks all!

Yes! Great idea! Go to lifepixel.com. For about $250, they will get your camera returned to you in a few weeks. I had a D70 converted, and it's great to play with. The post processing options are almost unlimited. They offer several different filters. I got the standard.

One thing you have to do before you shoot is set a custom white balance. You do that by taking a picture of green grass ( or similar) and using that as your white. Otherwise, everything turns out red. That's still OK because PP can manipulte it and give you some interesting results.

There are online tutorials for IR.

Thanks Jerry, I was going to do that with a d70, but gave both of them to my kids! At least I started a couple more photographers on their way.
Sounds like a good plan

I think it's a brilliant plan - do it! At work, I have a modified D90 IR camera (purchased through MaxMax). I've played with it a little, but I need to come up with a "work related" reason to take it home for the weekend.

Becoming proficient in its use.

That's actually a very valid reason. Our full-time staff photographer advocates carrying a work issued camera everywhere, including vacations. I've done that to a limited extent with a D7000, but the IR camera seemed more of a specialty item, harder to justify homework assignments.

There was a small town somewhere that had its local police officers use the town police cars as personal transportation around town, even when they weren't on duty. Having police cars riding around more made drivers more cautious.

It's a great idea; I converted a D70. To get a connect white balance, I need about -2 stops compensation. You can shoot midday. I just got Silver effects Pro 2 to convert to B&W.
