I dropped my everyday canon s90 in the water. Any ideas of how to get it to work again or is it damaged forever? My daughter said to put it in a bag of rice to absorb the moisture which i did. It has now been 24 hours and I can't get it to work yet. I just put it in the bag of rice....any other ideas out there. Thanks.
Open up all orifices, take out the battery and dry it, then recharge it but not in the camera. Shake as much moisture out as you can. If you have silicon gel packs, surround the camera with those, more efficient than dry rice.
Place it over a warm incandescent light bulb (NOT hot) to speed the drying process. Or use a hair dryer at low low heat to push WARM air into and onto the camera.
Wait for at least a couple of days before you try putting the battery back in and turn it on. If the camera still has moisture and you put battery power through it prematurely, you eill not be helping... patience
Uncooked rice and desiccant packs are okay for electronic re-hab, like a cellular telephone, but not for camera optics. That is most likely a lost cause.

I have to agree. If it was not immediately powered down (battery removed) and put in a drying method, it will probably never power up again. If it does, the pictures would likely show water damage on the sensor. Scrap it.
Keep it in the bag of rice.
Microwaves are out.

My son's cell phone had the same problem. He put it in rice for a day - no good. He got a new phone. By the second day in the rice, the old phone was fine. Be patient.

Call Canon service and ask how much they charge to fix it.
I'm not sure, but Canon charges a flat rate fee depending of what type of camera.
You may get the information on Canon's website.

I left my camera and lens in my car trunk on a hot dry day. I did this because I was taking it to a camera repair shop after work. A few hours later when I took the camera out, the camera and lens were dry. So, a semi-hot, dry place should work.
The camera with lens attached was dropped into a bucket of water.

Take solace in a nice cooked-rice reciped after its over.
Thanks everyone. I will try all options, even though I just got 2 to replace it (one is waterproof)
Thanks Jerry. I wrote Rick.
