You should email the deans of the photo depts at these colleges, giving them a list of the gear you want to donate and say also the gear can be given to students; that's what I did with LSU.

I am looking for advice on disposing of darkroom equipment. I have two enlargers, one 4x5 and another 35mm with all accessories.

There are also developing tanks, trays, washing tanks, etc.

I am prepared to donate some or all the equipment to a college or school. The only requirement is that the large equipment (enlargers) be picked up from my home.

This is sadly the end of an era for me. With the pain of spinal stenosis, and the ease of digital photography I do not foresee going back to darkroom work.

A few years ago, I had similar project with disposal of some older darkroom equipment (but without the health problems you mentioned) and I found a local school of art that wanted the enlarger and associated materials. The school has a fairly large photography division. Portland School of Art in Portland, Maine. I did need to deliver the equipment to them, however. Good luck with your mission.

I did a Google search for used darkroom equipment and even found KEH, a known large seller of pre-owned cameras and lenses. They do list enlarger lenses and other things but I did not go deeply into their listings. There are other sellers as well. The best bet is eBay. There are businesses that will do all the work to list and pack up your items for sale. Back in the day, as an owner of a custom lab in NYC, I bought a lot of items from them and also via Craigslist.

When we retired after 40 years in the business in 2008, we donated 6 Omega Chromega enlargers similar to yours
but had a large color head to allow enlarging color negatives as well. Short story, long, we donated 6 Omega Chromega D5s, lenses and related equipment (Updated versions of your D2V) to the University of New Mexico where a former employee got a job in their photo darkroom department. Large darkroom but budget restraints meant no enlargers! Good thing, the University offered to pay shipping.

Before we retired, other labs in NYC were biting the dust and we got plenty of offers of processors, color enlargers, and other goodies for just picking them up!

Be well!

I managed to give most of my developing tanks and trays to a local high school which still did film at the time, and sold the enlarging lenses, lens boards and negative carriers for the Beseler 45 on ebay. This was about 15 years ago.

But it took me 2 years to get rid of the Beseler chassis (the high school had all Omega enlargers and didn't want to mix brands) and to do it I had to give it away for free and deliver it. (I could not stand the thought of trying to package it for shipping, and so didn't try to sell it online.)

Thanks for all the helpful replies.

I live in Yardley, PA just across the Delaware River from Trenton, NJ.

I tried to donate the darkroom equipment to Bucks County Community College and to other charitable organizations in this area but there were no takers. I will try again; maybe there are others I have not thought of.

Although I retain my darkroom with condenser enlargers to 5x7----I made a lithographic copy camera out of a large diffusion enlarger. And if you have stainless deep tanks for 4x5 film holders or larger, ---those should always be in demand. Not all film users are old and dying off with back stenosis. First list on eBay with a substantial but reasonable price with a "make offer" and prepare to package and ship. Maybe make the price substantial enough for "free shipment" which has always made the difference with my purchases. Film will never die out with many and many new people are discovering its strengths. I don't comment on poor pictures when shown on UHH----but most have a "digital look"---with a pasty appearance with edge doubles rather than a clean outline. But maybe that is just from posting as JPEG on UHH. But, if you are in misery with your back I can see your need. But if family is influencing you to get rid off the dark room-----wait to see if your back recovers.-----ew

Ripon College in Ripon, is liberal arts and does not offer trade school courses as far as I know---BUT THE CHEMISTRY department maintains a darkroom----so might other liberal arts colleges not offering photography as such. But some of your ancillary items might bring more than the enlarger---such as the exposure frame--temperature controls which might be re-used in fish tanks---high quality thermometers---accurate scales---even your supply of chemicals? Also the safe light would do well on eBay?----ew

Why not post on the plethora of photographic forums such as Ugly Hedgehog? Most probably have a film photography Category. Most are free; the downside is hunting and posting and possibly joining but many of the sites are pretty interesting. I'll probably join more than a few myself!

Social Media and photography sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, Reddit (r/photography), DPReview, Fred Miranda Forum, Talk Photography, Photography Talk, The Photo Forum, Photography Forum, LightStalking, Photo.net, Photography on the Net, Open Photography Forums Initiative, ePhotozine, Photrio are places where you can post your ad, emphasizing that the equipment must be picked up.

There are many more: Google is your friend!

Be well!

In sales of photo equipment---You are much better off selling each item separately. It adds up to much more that a "bundle sale."----

Standing in front of a enlarger and the slight amount of bending plays helll on the lowerback. I suffer from the same problem as you. I hope your equipment finds a good home. If you do not get any good offers, perhaps the locsl Junior College may be interested in the equipment for their photography program. You can also the tax deduction if needed. I taught grad shool part time for over 34 years, when I was not traveling. Schools make good use of donatiions, money or equipment.

In the last, I donated some equipment to a college or a high school with a photography program. The one I’d donated to was in Virginia, as I recall, but you could see if there are any schools with an interest near you. Just a thought.

Same as my idea.

I tried four or five high schools and a Jr. College or two with no luck and quite often not even a reply. I finally went to the Art Institute of Chicago and picked a photography professor at random and dropped him a line. I got lucky, he was starting an outreach program on the southside, and he took everything: old brass lenses and cameras, photo books and magazines, all the darkroom items including a stainless-steel sink. Moving day is coming up shortly and it is a relief to have it all gone

How about posting an 8-1/2x11 sheet of paper with pull-off tabs on the bottom, listing your equipment at high schools or colleges. Most schools have art departments. There might be budding photography students who are interested but can't afford the cost. Ask your children's (if you have nearby) or neighbors' kids to post them for you at their schools or art departments at colleges. Any art institutes, leagues, coalitions or museums? Any "penny savers" or community newspapers?

Best of luck to you! Be well!
