Just white stuff stuck onto dark stuff… but stuck with such meticulous and masterful virtuosity as to be a jewel to be marveled, but only in its unpredictable allotted time. That it’s effect can be held in memory is a gift of infinite grace.

I probably would not have taken that shot. I would reason that there is no real "focal" point for the eye to rest on. The scene would be, in my estimation, too busy for an effective shot. You have proven nicely that my reasoning would be flawed. In download there is not actually one spot that the eye rests on; but the whole is comprised of shadows and light highlighting the intricate pattern beautifully. I like the photo.
