The bottom of this yellow butterfly is as pretty as the top side. Saw it hanging there upside down. What do you think about this shot? What does it need?
It appears to be out of focus
A little sharper and was there more color on the butterfly?
They are very skittish and hard to track and shoot.
You did well to catch this one.

The top was a bright yellow Monarch I think is the name. His underside was this color. I left it just as it was shot.
I didn't see Monarchs this season so you have an excellent catch for the season.
If you had waited for a shot of the top side he probably would have flitted away and you wouldn't have any photo to show us.
Not a Monarch, it appears to be one the swollow tail butterflies.

You have a tiger swallowtail there, the light is a little harsh on it which blows out it's true color, the detail is nice and the DOF is pretty good. Well done.
Definitely not a monarch. They are orange and black. I hope you don't mind, I did a little editing to see what could be done to fix the overexposure on the butterfly. I did darken the background so that the flower and butterfly would stand out more. I sharpened the flowers. On the butterfly I increased contrast, darkened the highlights and did a 50% strength burn tool to bring back the color a bit. If I remember correctly, the tiger swallow tail is yellow and black. This butterfly definitely has some peach color in areas. That would make it not a tiger swallow tail either. Anyone else have a guess...I don't.

Don't mind at all. It looks beautiful. Love the feedback.
Butterflies can be posed easily and not harm them. Catch a butterfly and put it the refrigerater for ten minutes. It will stun it for a short time. It will cling to what ever you pose it on. Then photograph it. When it warms up, it will fly away unharmed. Just be careful catching it.

How very interesting. Makes a lot of sense.

Yes that is it. Not sure that everyone got that I was trying to show the not so colorful side. That it was pretty bottom side up also.
That sounds so easy, catch a butterfly.
Somebody better explain to the butterfly how that is going to work.......
