Ideally, yes. But the reality is, many parents don't teach their kids much of anything. And some that do, teach their kids plenty of nonsense.

Most parents don't teach it. Some may not be comfortable sharing the topic with their children. Some may not know how to have those conversations.

I have had pretty up front, somewhat graphic conversations with both my daughters. And I have tried to teach them morals regarding sex.

They tell me their mother has never talked about sex to them...

I was not trying to brag.

Meant to illustrate that my very well educated and successful former wife never figured out how to talk to our daughters about sex issues.

According to my oldest, all her mother told her was something like "men get into relationships in order to have sex and women have sex in order to get into relationships." That is pretty shallow.

I think most parents are really uncomfortable talking about it with their kids other than in very superficial ways. So it is kind of left to the schools and the streets unfortunately.

A few comments on this thread...

First, when I saw "Ca" in the title I thought it was about Canada. Whew... glad we dodged that bullet!

Second, my parents NEVER had a sex talk with me; I got my education from friends, and in the old days... books; and even Playboy Magazine. Today, with the internet, I have no idea at what age kids are getting info, nor what kind of info. Parental locks on computers are probably just a challenge for kids today.

Third, leave it to parents to teach kids??? Again, with the internet that old joke has new relevance... "Son, I want to talk to you about sex." "Sure, Dad, what do you want to know?"

Do Canadians know how to have sex?

Seems like there is an enormous amount of unpopulated territory up north...so I kind of wondered if y'all knew how it worked!

Well, I think those northerners DO know what they are supposed to do. But I am sure you also know the effect that extreme cold has on blood vessel hydraulics!

But seriously, even male urination can be a challenge in the cold when you are wearing multiple layers of clothing. You really have to coax the little fella to come out of hiding in the warmth of the groin area.

And now here's a Q&A for you. And if you tell this to anyone be sure to act out the answer rather than using words, as I have to in this instance...

Q: How can you tell if a man or a woman peed in the snow?
A: When a guy pees in the snow there is a small round yellow hole. When a woman pees in the snow there is a "smiley" because as she is crouched down she keeps piv****g left and right, asking "Is anyone looking?"
