These were taken Tuesday at Whitewater Draw, a sanctuary run by Arizona Game & Fish. This is one of the larger winter homes of the Sandhill Cranes (est population between here and Wilcox is 40,000+).

The cranes leave at daybreak to eat and frolic , and return to the ponds between late morning & early afternoon.
It's quite an experience to see and hear all of these cranes land in the ponds nearby.

Note: I posted these under birds in flight, but thought more people would see them under galleries.

Hope you enjoy

Thanks. Have you seen them in Minnesota? I saw a few in Rochester this summer

Very nice. You caught some good light. Although there are many cranes (and other waterfowl) at Whitewater Draw, I find it is not an easy place to photograph. Depending on water level the cranes sometimes do not come close and because they return from the fields late morning or early afternoon, often the light is bad.

Excellent shooting! Love those in flight.
How far away are they, from where you were shooting? And what lens?

I agree, Whitewater Draw is a fun place to visit for cranes, but I have to agree it is difficult to get close to them, at least in my experience. There is a fun opportunity to the north and west of the refuge for the early morning fly out. I was out there a few years back pre dawn with some nice color in the se sky and you could see waves and waves of Sandhills flying north to their daily feeding areas up toward Wilcox. Here is a link if you have any interest in a peek (https://static.uglyhedgehog.com/upload/nt/2020/3/18/736190-itewater_draw_dawn_dsc8697.jpg). Thanks for the post!
