Don’t photo editing programs allow you to change EXIF parameters?
Yes John, there is an EXIF-Claus, LOL
There are EXIF editors out there, most with batch functions. In the grubby sub-culture of the web they see a need, they fill a need. On many sites where people exchange images of scantily dressed females, EXIF information is a stock in trade to determine that you're dealing with the original photographer. It sort-of worked for a while.
There are some legitimate uses for EXIF editors. I've use one editor to correct the dates of scanned family snapshots to the approximate date when they were taken, not when they were scanned.
So, being able to grab a photo from the web and insert fake EXIF data is now a thing. That said, most of the idiots doing this don't know a thing about photography and will show all their images at one ISO or one F-stop, etc. Most image hosting sites such as Flickr now allow you to strip off your EXIF information or at least hide it.
Photo theft is rampant. Some are collectors, some are just looking for material to use for "derivative work". Many image hosting sites allow you to download any image you see and if not, there's always that handy screen capture function. At least with screen capturing, there's some tedious work involved if the thief wants to steal a bunch of images.
Sadly or not, images downloaded here on the hog come with EXIF included. That is probably why many who contribute here choose NOT to upload nice, big, photos to steal. Plus, we do have a lot of film guys that are scanning negatives or prints. The EXIF information for that will just show the scanner info.
As the say in many places, damned if you do, damned if you don't. Maybe all the contributors should upload a photo like this to lend a bit more credibility to our contributions.
