Where is the Z9 made?

And it matters why?

Those who currently have them ordered them a while back. It may be quite a while for local stores to have enough stock to make it worthwhile paying for an ad. With continuing chip shortages and supply chain issues their availability will likely be limited.

I’m getting ready to order and I won’t expect to see it for months.

If you have a local Nikon dealer, they may have a few customers who opt out once it is time to pick it up (circumstances change for us all). Your wait might be much shorter there than it will be with one of the big national dealers, especially if you've got a friend behind the counter who knows you'll be there with the money before the (well I was going to say before the receiver hangs up, but that might not be understood by some of our younger shooters). My friend's father used to say "fast pay makes fast friends". Good Luck and here's hoping it's a short wait.

Yes, but that shipment will barely put a dent in all the preorders.

I already have mine and I made sure that my friend received his too. Nikon is reporting to have 35,000 units shipped this week.

I try to manage MY expectations with the Z9. I don't view it as a panacea for my images. I can end up with as good of images from my D5 as the Z9. HOWEVER - the Z9's focusing system is excellent and let's me capture more images in focus than any other camera I have used. It will take time to practice and learn how to get the most from it. It is not something to just take out of the box and get instant results as seen in the numerous promotional videos. Plan on taking some time as mentioned in Gourmand's opening post. It is a wonderful system! I've been using it for some hockey games and if you are so inclined, feel free to check out some of the images at my website. I shoot through thick (dirty!) plexiglass and it does a very good job. But that being said, it has taken a couple of games to come up with settings that work the best.

After using the Z9 for a few weeks now, there are a couple of things that I already like a lot. First, since mirrorless cameras have no mirror slap noise, I can shoot with far less attention and apparent irritation from others (a big plus for street shooting and animals). Also, I am a fool for bracketing and then painting in highlights and shades later in Ps. Easy enough for tripod shots, but at 20 frames per second (almost seven fully bracketed shots per second), as long as the shutter speed is relatively fast I can now shoot a three frame bracket faster than I can take my finger off the shutter button. In the past I would turn bracketing on if the situation called for it. Now I only turn bracketing off if the situation calls for it. BTW, the camera feels great in my hands (Nikon shooter since 1969) and my legacy lenses have performed flawlessly. There’s a lot of interest in this new system on UHH and there is still a lot for me to learn about it, but if you have any questions I’ll be happy to try and answer them for you. BTW, Matt Granger’s Complete Setup Guide cost me $82.45, and was worth every penny.

Just got my letter from B&H - I'm so EXCITED - Hope it's (Z9) as good as most say it is. I'll see on Wednesday
