Now, you have a large RAW and a massive TIFF. Have a look at the DNG converter and at least compare the two workflows. The DNG converter runs in batch and relatively quick, maybe you cull first and then convert to DNG for editing to cut down on the total number of files.

What I want to do is print directly from RAW, w/o converting to another format. Thanks tho.
