Or, it could be an example of the combination of not going with (1) year-by-year tools and (2) buying new cameras and (3) shooting in RAW.

Why? My straight out of camera jpegs from my new Nikon mirrorless gear are excellent, but, my processed NEF files of the same images blow the jpegs away.

Use this test to confirm their qualifications: can you install an upgraded ACR into PSE-11, such as anything beyond v7.4?

No, as discussed earlier, newer ACR can't be update into the older software. The drawback of the manufacture's software is you need to output the image as a 16-bit TIFF, hopefully in the ProPhotoRGB, to travel into other editing software to continue the edit process. Now, you have a large RAW and a massive TIFF. Have a look at the DNG converter and at least compare the two workflows. The DNG converter runs in batch and relatively quick, maybe you cull first and then convert to DNG for editing to cut down on the total number of files.

What I want to do is print directly from RAW, w/o converting to another format. Thanks tho.

Adobe Camera RAW replaces or updates the "Camera RAW" filter in Photoshop. Open your Adobe Photoshop, Open Filter, Open Camera RAW Filter, and there it is.

If you have your printer local to your computer, I believe your editor likely has a print option, assuming you can edit to 'completion' to your satisfaction within just one software.
