Great shot John - wish we had more of these old barns in NJ.

Congratulations to the owner for keeping a well kept up farm.

Congratulations to you for a great photo of the barn.

Does anyone have any idea why barns are typically the color, red, as opposed to blue, green, yellow or any other color. Just curious.

Not sure why they are today but hundreds of years ago, many farmers would seal their barns with linseed oil, which is an orange-colored oil derived from the seeds of the flax plant. ... Rust was plentiful on farms and because it killed fungi and mosses that might grow on barns, and it was very effective as a sealant. It turned the mixture red in color.

That would make sense. Linseed oil was used on many wooden things back then and it worked. Thanks for teaching me something today.

Beautiful shot. I love red barns. Now that I have downsized and live in town, I painted the front door of my little 104 year old house BARN RED! I miss the country and all the critters....and the barn!
