New Years Eve Tradition

We spent our New Years Eve in Palm Springs hoping to escape the cold beach weather. That didn’t happen. Still cold, but at least it was clear and not raining. So we used the hot tub extensively and played some golf. Now we’ve decided that it may end up being our new tradition, go to the desert and play golf on New Year’s Eve. We enjoy the view, and the course is an easy par 3.
Plus there’s always Brunch.

That's a tradition I could get used to. Nice skyline.

After taking a look at the first picture, it made me wonder just how much water they are sucking in from who knows where, (I do see some snow on the mountains, but not much!) to keep the grass green let alone provide for all of the homes down there!?

The Coachella valley sits on a huge aquifer which supplies all of the water for the valley. Is replenished by the melting snow. No other water source needed for the Valley

Thanks. It shows why we traversed the Banning pass to get back into the sun.

As Old Coot said, the whitewater aquifer is massive and extends throughout the valley. Desert Hot Springs, which is just down the road, has naturally bubbling wells of hot mineral water that’s close to the surface. Those mountains shed a lot of water that flows into the Whitewater during the year. There is a percentage of the water used on the links that just seeps back into the massive aquifer under the Valley. It doesn’t all just go to waste on growing grass. And this golf course sits within the confines of the river wash where the excess easily seeps in.
We’ve only had to ration water once in the past and that was only because of a statewide water reduction mandate. As far as water imports, the Imperial Valley is the place that gets Colorado River water. The farms there are the ones that use it with runoff going to the Salton Sea.
