Great shot. Good place to perch and learn the trade from the master. I wouldn’t get any closer either.

Excellent work! The only time I saw this was (of course) when I didn't have my camera with me! Was this taken recently? I saw a baby gator about a month ago, which seems to be a bit early...or late.. in the year.

Nice one!! Yes, you were close enough....I was chased by a large pissed off gator when I was a teenager (and was much much faster than I am now) - it exploded out of the water and ran approx. 20-25 yards from the waters edge, but had closed to within a few feet of 3 scrambling teens....I think what stopped it was we all went different directions at that point......the gator made a lifelong impression on me (and that was about 55 years ago)!!!! I fear that if we hadn't split 3 ways, the slowest of us might have had a really bad day! They don't look all that fast when lumbering around, but they can run like a fence lizard........
