Got about eleven inches or so on the BC campus on Friday. Very quiet day as a result. Students still on break but the snow was soft and light, lousy for snowball fights so they didn't miss anything. (One of my fondest memories of undergrad days was the freshman year snowball fight after a January blizzard. That and the obscene snow sculpture our small dorm made. It faced the small neighboring dorm. We stood outside and chanted. Cannot put the three words chant on this site.)
There was no wind. Spent some time over two days shooting. And processing. Everything shot raw with EM1 mk ii and either the Olympus 12-40 f/2.8 or the Olympus 40-150 f/2.8. Processed with Capture One 21.
The backyard shared by three satellite communities. Took this about two hours before the snow stopped though it had slowed quite a bit.

Gasson Hall. Oftentimes mistaken for a church it is a classroom building with a very large formal hall on the ground floor.

Taken at quite a distance away in the SJ residence. Shot at 150 mm. It was a toss-up to post the black and white or the almost black and white with her wearing a red parka. Went with black and white.

The outdoor creche after about 13 hours of snow. No wind allowed for interesting draping over the creche figures. Behind is a library that offered some protection from any wind coming from the west.

Great pictures! Great snow! Thank you for posting!
Poul.
Excellent set - particularly like #2 and #4. The latter kind of iconic - a statement about the times.
Very nice series, frjack. I also enjoyed the narrative.

You are a brave photgrapher to take pictures in deep snow! And the captures are pully nice. I love the "mistaken" church. It has really a "british look"...one could imagine this has been photographied somewhere in G.B. Very good photos...thank You

Thanks. You have a point about the times. I have several shots with a Vietnamese Jesuit friend when we were in Vietnam. I was shooting him with an Olympus and he was shooting me with a Canon. It became a game when we both had our cameras with us.

Thanks for commenting. Sent these to a close friend in Taiwan. He asked if UPS ships snow. Uh, I don't think so.

Thanks for commenting. Having a Friday of fresh snow, not too terribly cold temps, and no commitments was a great luxury. With almost no one on campus there was little interference with shooting.

Thanks. Oddly enough I had no trouble with the footing. On Christmas Eve I was shooting in about an inch of snow at a monastery where I was helping out. Cameras not damaged.
BC has a decent collection of 'collegiate gothic' architecture. The library behind the creche shot has also been mistaken for a church as it has a gothic tower. The inside of the library, Bapst is one of the most visually beautiful libraries I've ever been in. I did not go to school here and thus am not biased. I hope to get into Bapst in the summer with cameras.

Thanks. Gasson is one of the most photogenic buildings on campus. I envision parents turning in to the main gate and seeing Gasson a few hundred yards straight ahead. Time to reach for the checkbook.
Beautiful set, thanks for sharing.
