Took this in an alleyway in Venice, and she gives me the impression of being quite well dressed. Also done in b/w, but prefer this one better.

You captured it well.
Do you happen to know of what the sign speaks?

Hi Marilyn, it roughly says, I have three children, no home and no work.... People that passed were not taking any notice of her. Thanks for your interest, David.

Thank you for replying. Its truly a shame that in this modern day world that people have to live as such. One can't help but feel sorry for them.

Your correct in that she seems well dressed...additionally, she seems very clean as her hands don't show any grime one usually associates with the homeless.
A gritty B&W technique might work for this image. BTW, did she dip her head because you took her picture?

What you state should be the tip off.
I know we have street people here as well, they look the part, but whose to say that they don't have their better clothes in one of those bags they carry.

I know for a fact that back in Paletine,IL the street corners we full of them, the wife and kids on one corner the husband on the other.
My son worked for a local gas station there and these people would come in to have coffee and a burger later morning, before going back out to hit again.
By chance my son happened to speak to one of them and topic of conversation was" did you make enough to eat today".
The reply was that they turned at least $1000 a day standing on those corners.
Show me a person whom earns that amt per day!
Then in the same breath there are indeed people whom have an immediate need for some assistance.

I speak from experience, I was homeless my wife at 35 had an affair with an 18 year old (and was pregnant), I didn't know, mug, she divorced ME siting mental and physical cruelty, I lost my home, and was homeless, my three sons 7,6 and 4 were taken into care.

I fought for 2 years and won custody, she was seen finally as a liar by the court and I received (now framed) an apology, but in the meantime, as is usual the council gave HER the house, she threw everything my sons had away, beds, clothes, toys.

I and my sons had to start again from a 1 bedroom flat (me originally from the back of a car).

People say it is a shame she should be like that in this day and age, hah.

People in the UK cry poverty, can't feen their childrenm then light another cigarette on the way to bingo.

My youngest now 17 is going to College, ALL three of my sons were raise dby me, all registered disabled.

Now I give to people selling the BIG ISSUE, and never take one, they are working.

I gave one £3 today, I don't smoke or drink.

If you want something hard enough and bad enough you do it, and I can prove my story.

I never begged.

chauncey, you are smack-on in your opinion of her appearance! Tried b/w
but didn't seem to work as I thought it would....and no, she was with her head down all the time.

I have traveled in Italy and find this in every city I have visited. These people make a living begging. You can not go anywhere in a major city and not be accosted. At all the major attractions it is horrible, Police spend half their time chasing them away. Try getting into the Vatican, with out being accosted, it is impossible. Go outside of any city in Italy and you will see caravans of these people. unlike any country I have visited. I will never go back to Itlay. Do not feel sorry. This is a ruse.

Apologies, strayed off target, I would prefer this is monochrome not black and white as that consists of just two NON colours, black and white

gregoryd45, I know where you are coming from. Italy does have this problem along with France, especially on the rail networks. I would, unlike you, keep returning, as I consider it a small price to pay, although this problem does need attention! David.

JR1, That's O.K.,.. easily done! Did this in monochrome, but it conveyed my observation about her attire better in colour.
