Went down to the river yesterday evening to watch a scheduled Falcon 9 launch. Since I was 56 miles (measured on Google Earth) to the launch site and these photos are probably more than 65 miles away (altitude and distance), my RX10 wasn't up to the task for something that small that far away...a full frame (high res) with a 600mm plus 1.4x or 2x converter would be much better...if I only had the money...

However, it's always fun to watch these rockets launch and I go all the time and SpaceX is having a great record with the Falcon 9. Fun fact, the booster on this launch was used on three previously launches and has been recovered (landed) each time on the barge out in the ocean...Cheers all.

Nice capture even if it's far away.

I think your RX10 did a fine job for that distance and motion. In double download mode both the rocket and the flames from it's engines are clearly shown.

Thanks Ken...Canaveral has a full list of launches this year with some interesting ones, like the Artimes in March (hopefully)

Thank you Cindy, usually we go up to the Cape for special launches like Falcon Heavy and the upcoming Artimes launch, a real big one, similar to the Saturn 5....Cheers

I was lucky enough to be able to see the Shuttle take off once in FL and land once in CA...wish I was into photography way back then! You are lucky to be able to get to watch them.

Thanks Cindy, I never tire of a rocket launch. Growing up as a kid in Kissimmee in the 50's & 60's, we used to see them from our kitchen window during the space race, a few explosions also...Cheers

Totally ethereal!
Epic celestial color harmonies latent within!
Thinking that at 60 plus miles the atmosphere attenuated all traces of sound waves...

I live a stone's throw from Dulles International Airport in NOVA.
When the Concord would take off it shook my entire residence...
That bird was more than spectacular!

It flew at over twice the speed of sound, i.e. Mach 2.04, with seating for 92 to 128 passengers.
I still miss the rumble and roar of it's mighty turbojets...

Thank you for sharing this Falcon image Blaster...
And thank you for your service to our Country!

Thank you so much Thomas...The Concorde was a beautiful bird. The one thing I really miss today is carrier aviation (25 years); the squadron camaraderie, the excitement, the ballet of the flight deck during flight ops, launch and recovery, the noise, the smell of kerosene, the heat, is second to none....Cheers, have a safe and happy new year.

Nice photo. Thursday's trajectory was more southerly than usual, so your view was probably better than average! The barge where they land the boosters (they may have more than one) is named "Of course I still love you"!

BTW, an excellent documentary is Countdown: Inspiration 4. It chronicles the Spacex flight focusing on the 4 crewmebers.
