I would suggest that your processing is restricting your "results" far more than the process of the capture.

The image looks over processed (cooked) and there are wide halos around edges. This raises a question, is this due to your processing of a 'good' initial image, OR, your processing of a 'poor' initial image to try and fix it?

If you post the original it would certainly help those answering.

Agree about processing on this photo...

Post the original also and ask Hoggers to make suggested edits..

also it might look great on your monitor which may need to be fine tuned

BTW the composition is good

good luck

Dear Longshadow...

I am shooting a Sony ILCE-7RM4 set manually at 1/1600 second shutter speed; F3.5 aperture; ISO 20,000 to get a perfect exposure under the poor mercury vapor lighting; focal length of 135mm.

I'm no expert at this and so wasn't going to weigh in but I noticed 1/1600 secfond shutter speed. It seems to me that that's far faster then you need to capture human action and it's forcing you to very high ISO values to get proper exposure. I'm sure you're using a long lens but with image stabilization and a monopod you might be able to lower the shutter speed and ISO to reduce noise in the shot.

I'm curious to see what one with more experience would advise.

Most of us experiment with ISO, Speed and f stop till we get it. The instant replay is the answer now, in the old days we had to process the film. Life is easy, now.

Agree with others regarding over PP. The one thing I would suggest in PP is blurring distracting background (white spots over players shoulder and gentlemen in upper left. Additionally, I'm a big fan of sports movement. With soccer, 1/500 SS allows for foot/ball movement, but can still freeze remainder of players.
