This plant is quite common around here in Kent and shrouds the top of hedgerows. I learned today that it also has the names Traveller's Joy, Rascal's herb, and Beggar's herb. The latter two are because beggars and rascals sometimes rubbed the stem sap on their skin which caused a rash and made people feel sorry for them and give money.

What neat photos Brenda. They almost look like giant spiders. I wonder if they are in the United States. Do people plant them or are they a type of weed?

👍. The pictures form interesting abstract lines. I like the first one especially.

Thanks Dennis, no not planted, they are just wild and wind distributed.

Thanks Mark, I also like the abstract feel these plants can create.

Those are great shots of your UK native hedgerow plant, Clematis vitalba, Brenda.

There is a plant that is native to North America with very similar seed heads, Clematis virginiana - "Virgin's bower." The blossoms on the two species are just about identical.

Thank you Blenheim Orange, I have read that in New Zealand a similar Clematis was planted and eventually became a menace in woodlands by becoming so dense that it cut out the light for growth of other vegetation. Happy New Year to you with lots of photography.

Nicely done, Brenda. I enjoy seeing the artistic side of macro photography and I find Mother Nature to be the greatest artist of all times.

Yes, we have them here. A very difficult subject to photograph. I've seen them and haven't even tried. But you did well. Kudos.

Thank you Fotoartist, I am sure you would succeed once you have a go. I think seedheads are all fascinating, I am keen to look for more.
