Long, long ago. If you take the little "nut" shaped pieces out the cats just love to bat them around, especially on a hard floor instead of carpet. But our one cat liked marbles more - 2 AM wake up and hear Sierra across the hall from our bedroom in my office with linoleum floors. Skitter skitter-Wack THUD; skitter skitter Wack THUD. Sometimes I would get up and move her toys to the kitchen so the noise was 2 rooms and the other hall away. Then her goal was a shot across the kitchen, down the short hall past the 1/2 bath through the door back into my office but not through the door(s) into the main hall or the family room. The room I used for my office used to be a small bedroom but had a door past the 1/2 bath to the kitchen, a door to the hall where our other bedrooms were and a door into the family room addition on the back of the house. The family room in the back and the hall to the bedrooms both had carpet and that wasn't as much fun for her. Too quiet. The bedrooms and living room had carpet also therefore she didn't like playing "paw ball" in them either. Eventually all her "balls" would be under the stove in the kitchen so she would cry until I tilted the stove while someone swept them out with the broom. The other cat "Snow Ball" didn't like to play that game, she preferred someone's lap or wrapped around your neck being a fur collar. When there was warm sun into the bay window of the family room or a fire in the fire place both of them would go take naps in the window or on the hearth. They even put up with the dog coming inside and joining them in front of a fire on cold or rainy days. Actually they were friends with Sniffy. Our front screen door closer didn't always pull it until it caught so if Sierra pushed on it and got out the door Sniffy let her go roam the yard, she was rough and tough. If Snow Ball got out Sniffy knew little "brainless" didn't do outside well so she would herd her back to the door then lie down to keep her there until someone came and opened the screen to get Snow Ball back in the house.
