I've been using Quicken for years, and it's great for keeping track not only of money spent, but of what it was spent on. If I want to know what brand or model I bought, I can look it up on Quicken. The scary thing is seeing how much money I spent in the past year for certain things - tools, cameras, cars, etc. It really adds up over a year.

BOA sends me a similar statement complete with pie and bar graphs, gives a good perspective on where the money goes, (and goes, and goes!)

I started using Quicken years ago to find out where our money was going and then set up a budget. I figured that borrowing money to pay our property tax wasn’t a good thing. Now I just use it to balance the checkbook. Our spending has settled down into pretty routine predictable amounts.

I love Quicken! Been using it for over 25 years.
Banks may provide a report, but Quicken lets me analyze.

(my current version is 2007 - Meets my needs. )

I had trouble with my old version, and subscription was the only solution. Every few days, they have me download the updates, just to fool me into thinking I'm getting something for the annual subscription price.

I think that’s the one I have. Copied it to a new PC and it wouldn’t load its own backup. Lost all that old data. Now I copy the entire Quicken folder that’s in Documents to a backup on a USB and hope that will do the trick if I have to go to a new PC again.

And the updates probably just add a few financial institutions that nobody used. 😏😏

New computer... A Win 10/11 box?
I'm still running it on two Win 7 boxes.
If that's the case, Thanks for the warning!
I even "restore" the backup done on the desktop (the master) to the program running on my laptop via WIFI.

Win 10 to a Win 10. I suspect that Quicken looks for a link when you run Restore to identify its backup data. I loaded my Quicken CD on the new PC I and when I ran Restore I got a message that it couldn’t find a certain file. I hope my new procedure works. Haven’t tried it yet. Hated to lose all that data. Had to set up all my accounts again. Only have a few that I track anymore.

Operating files and backup files may be different.
Did you do a restore from the old "operating directory"?
I have it set to put my backup files in a "C:\Backups\Quicken" directory.
I restore to the laptop from the backup directory on the desktop.
My operating directory is different, the default, on both boxes.

I used Quicken's backup routine. When I reloaded from the CD there was no record in the "new" Quicken of where those backup files were. Didn’t track them down on my old PC before it went gunnybag.

I don't recall what the default backup directory is on a new install.
It could simply have been that maybe you changed the backup location on the original install?
The new install would not know where that was, so it would try to use the default backup location.

I think I should have copied my backup files to the new PC hard drive to where the new install would look for them. Oh well.

Probably.

I do a lot of live-and-learn with software.
My latest debacle is the difference in operation between RootsMagic v7 and v8. Very different in both looks and operation on the new version.... I can run v7 and v8 independently, but the backup files are different for each, at least in nomenclature. Now to figure out what of old? files I need to keep, and using OTHER databases I have from friends, which are currently in v7 format???.
Once I do that I can uninstall v7.....

I used to like solving some of those problems. Not anymore. I tried for 3 weeks once to replace a modem in a PC. Finally tracked down the solution. Windows didn’t like having the two drivers on the HD. Had to delete the old modem and it’s driver, shut down, boot back up with no modem, shut down again, install the new modem and boot up again. Bingo.
