I am trying to create an Export File Preset with the intent of exporting different photo shoot images to a folder on the Desktop. I would like to:
1. have the preset prompt me to add a folder name
2. then use that folder name as the exported photo's file name (it should automatically add -1, -2, -3 etc)

I followed Cole's article but struggle getting the file name added automatically ..

1. For Export Location, select Desktop from your dropdown menu.
2. Click on Put in Subfolder and enter the name.
3. For File Naming, click on Rename To:.
4. From the dropdown menu, select Custom Name - Sequence.
5. For Custom Text, enter the subfolder name.
6. Make sure the Start Number is set to 1.
7. Click on Add under the User Preset menu and enter the preset name.
8. All done.

Step by step easy to follow.

What 1234 said. I still use LR6 & when go to export, what ever I entered last time I exported is still in the boxes. So you would just change the info you need to (I think).

You are correct - however I work on different projects so I am trying to automate exports ...
1040 pixels for this or that
2080 pixels for my website
680 pixels for text and email sharing

Presets would make it a little more efficient and convenient
Thanks

You should have unique presets for each of these output formats. And unique (but common) target folders. I can't speak for new versions of Lightroom, but I don't think you can make an export 'prompt' for the folder name. If the name is valid, it gets used if it exists and created if it doesn't.

When I say 'common', why not just have a 'work-1040' folder? Export to the folder, use the images for whatever purpose they were created. Delete the images and / or the folder. The next execution of the Preset (for the next purpose) adds more images to the folder and / or re-creates the folder with new images.

Regarding file name, I just take the current file name and add an -LR suffix, signifying this was an edited export. There's a few options, including date or custom names with sequence. You just have to remember to update the custom name, or they'll use the default coded into the preset.

I essentially have specific folders setup and my exports typically are Jpegs. There is an option in Lr Export as one creates a preset that includes "Choose folder later" where in the export process Lr opens and asks where will exported images be exported to ... that's were I can name the subfolder and then Under 'File Naming' section I can edit the default and add Rename to "Folder' (with the folder defined in step the first step) I just can't get it to work.
Bob ... the Cole Classroom link I shared claims it can be done (I think) https://www.colesclassroom.com/how-to-easily-create-a-lightroom-export-preset/

I figured you knew more about the prompting than maybe my own usage and / or the linked video. I didn't follow to see his process given I don't have the up-to-date software.

Once you do that set up one time, and select the folder, pixel size and all, select add on the last side and give it a name, ie of you are exporting for UHH, name the export preset uhh. It will create the directory and all. I do the same as you, and this is what I do. After expiring and uploading, I delete the files, but not the directory to save space.
