I noted a recent discussion about tripods-
centercolumn.com offers excellent reviews and a ratings system for all purpose and travel tripods.
A recent start up, Colorado Tripod Company, has some well rated models made in America.
Feisol also has some highly rated models made in Taiwan. Manfrotto models are made in Italy.
