BBC News on Christmas morning.
"Los Angeles police have k**led two people, including a 14-year-old girl trying on new outfits, after opening fire inside a clothing store.
A stray bullet hit the teen as she was in a changing room with her mother trying on dresses for a birthday party.
Police say the shooting came after reports of shots being fired by a man inside the store. The suspect was shot dead, but no gun was found".
The only guns were police guns? The world is watching!
this is a tragedy for sure. Why did they shoot? What was the threat? And what does this have to do with photography ?
Update: Ok it was reported here police were called with a report of an armed suspect. They shot a man who was assaulting a customer(s). He was hitting a woman with a bike chain. I’m glad he is dead but it’s awful that an innocent girl was also k**led.
“A woman who was being assaulted by the suspect when officers arrived was taken to a hospital in unknown condition. She was seen in video footage from the scene being loaded into an ambulance, awake but bloodied.“
People will blame the police but the perpetrator is the one who caused it.

Sound like F**E NEWS, I live in San Diego, 120 miles south of Los Angeles and there is nothing on our news about any such Police shooting. Believe me, if there had been one it would be on all the TV stations here (We have 10+ local stations and 25+ cable news stations.
Update: just saw it on my news, Tragic, perpetrator of attack caused it.

As a Brit it is not my place to interfere - but it is on BBC news today. Do LA cops not carry tasers? Why did these cops not tackle the man? How many cops were at the scene?
"Stray shot" means more than one shot if two persons died. "Stray shot" means there was wild and erratic shooting by at least one cop in a place where there were innocent people Christmas shopping.
Think about the chaos of someone swinging a chain around in the crowd at a soccer match then multiply it 10 times and that was what the scene inside of that Department store was like for the police trying to control the situation. It will become clearer when they release the body camera footage from the officers involved. Hard to judge if you were not there. (I was a reserve Deputy Sheriff in L.A., 1973-1978 then moved to San Diego) Yes, they likely had Tasers and other non lethal options, but it was a judgement call as to what to use.
Many more facts will have to come out in this case, like in any other. Police always have to be aware of their surroundings before firing their weapons. Chances are that this officer saw nobody behind the perpetrator, not recognizing the changing rooms. More information is needed to made a judgment. Ultimately, however, this is a great tragedy, and yes, the first question to be answered would be, why not taze the guy.
It is not f**e news; and it is just one more tragedy. Tragedy everywhere.
Friday morning a man here in Miami shot his wife dead, then shot himself—leaving their 5 year old son alive in the house, and 13 year old daughter to call 911. Not cop related, but heartbreaking.
Merry Christmas.

Everyone can own a gun in this country and when someone
reports they heard shots it's almost guaranteed that someone
is going to die. The police will shoot first and ask questions later.

Bike chains don't make very maneuverable weapons. They only bend in one plane, and are rather awkward to swing. There have always been bad cops, but these days it also looks as though there aren't a whole lot of well trained ones.
When I say there have always been bad cops, I don't mean to suggest a high percentage.

This only proves that cops are human just like the rest of us. We all do things we regret. Imagine having to make a decision in a moment of great stress.
