D7500 Question

Your help please.

When I push the shutter on my Nikon D7500 half way down, the frame counter on the top and in the viewfinder flashes the error message "r12". I have looked in my official instruction book and my third-party book, and can't find out what that means.

Can any of you tell me what that means? Thanks

It's the buffer. You have 12 more shots before the buffer filled up.

Thank you, but if I don't shoot for a while, shouldn't the buffer clear? It didn't used to do this.

I'm set for Raw plus fine jpg and mine reads r20. But that was with the cap on (apparently the scene matters). I suspect SD card transfer rate matters as well.
The buffer numbers are not a representation of how much can fit into camera’s memory at one time. It is a number that represents the total number of shots that would fit in a time sequence until the buffer gets full and the camera slows down. I think when you actually start shooting...the number changes to number of images that can fit in the buffer at the moment in time vs the total number possible in a burst. (From a dpreview blog)

Pages 87, 347, 348 of the manual provides more info. Admittedly, it is easier to find once you know you are dealing with the buffer!

think of r as "remaining in buffer".

Do you have a card in the slot?

That was the first thing that I checked. Thanks for asking.

Once the photos are written to card, that number will increase to Max. Depending on settings. Did you change anything. Do you have a card fast enough to keep up white the processing of the camera.

Thank you. Yes, I have a blazingly fast card, and no, I didn't change aqnything. Anyway, it doesn't seem to be a problem.
