I have used free CCleaner for many years, and always update as soon as updates are released. I run it at least once a day, and it always has performed flawlessly – and thoroughly, doing what it says with no problems of any kind!!! I also use Windows Defender (now a very good program, runs in the background) and Malwarebytes free, also at least daily.

In the past I have used various antivirus programs, but some of them really slow the computer, and now are not necessary. I have not had a virus or any other kind of malware affect my computer in years. I am on the Internet constantly, but certainly utilize good practice in its use. I never have played a computer game, and never visit porn or other sketchy sites! Malwarebytes occasionally blocks a website which I know to be good, but I work around that. I’d much rather have it be aggressive than not!

My computer is a PC desktop, running (always updated) Windows 10.

I have tried other programs which purport to do the same things as CCleaner, but have had problems with some, and nothing is as good – and fast!!! - as CCleaner. I recommend it highly!!! (as also Windows Defender and Malwarebytes.)

I've used it on and off. It's still free, isn't it, or do they want you to upgrade to a paid version?

EDIT: Funny! I didn't know why it had two "Cs."

EDIT 2: Looking at the comparison chart, it doesn't look like the free version is worth downloading. It looks the paid versions are purchased, rather than rented. Maybe.

Jerry ---

If you look at the comparison of the free and paid versions, there’s nothing of consequence missing in the free! They will periodically ask you to upgrade, but there’s no need to!!!

If you really need a software updater, I suggest using IObit Software Updater (again, the free version), which works very well.

If you want a defrag program, there are a number available for free – but don’t use on an SSD!!!

I've been using Trend Micro for the same purpose, for years. I will check out Windows Defender.

The free version of Advanced system care downloaded from IOBIT.COM does a great job of cleaning up your system. I personally use the paid version on 3 of my systems and run it every 2 days but the free version does a great job as well (basically the same cleaning ability but adds extra features beyond the cleaning)

I've used the free version of CCleaner a long time. The only thing I don't like about it is that once in a while a pop up will say it's time for your pc health cleaner check and it doesn't go away until you run it. I've tried 'X' ing it out and that doesn't do anything . Ctrl, Alt, Delete will get rid of it but then in comes right back. Other than that I use it weekly. I also have paid version of Malware Bytes. A little pop up will appear in the lower right hand corner of the monitor telling me that my computer is clean and safe or that it found a suspicious site and what do I want to do with it. Doesn't slow my computer down at all. I don't even know its working, UNLESS I run it manually then it slows my computer down. I just have the program that I want to work on up and running before I run Malware Byte.
I also have Windows Defender. I've had it since it wasn't such a good virus defender but over the years it has improved a lot and it is still free. And I to have not had a virus or anything else nasty on my computer; so if it ain't broke why fix it

Thanks. I'll take a look.

How are you doing in the Philippines with volcanoes and earthquakes?

The thing with tools like Ccleaner is that one needs to actually learn to use it correctly. There were many negative things said in yesterdays post about Cclnr that were obviously the result of not learning how to use the product.....nearly everything posted (negatives) were easily resolved by simply selecting what features are to be used, really very, very simple.

Many worry about file deletions and such, but if you configure it properly it will only address the messes that arise in your browsers from widespread internet activity. As I stated yesterday, I select the features to be used, I decide what it looks at, and basically I only use it as a "browser" cleaner. Works like a champ, and has never caused me any issues, or data/file losses, or passwords, operating programs or anything else, because I choose what it looks at and selects, and I review those selections prior to the actual "cleaning". Again, I use it as a browser cleanup tool.

If one selects a product to use, learn how to use it before you just run it and then bitch about what it did or didn't do. And you can always "back-up" prior to the actual cleaning. This is especially important prior to publicly bashing a product/vendor/manufacturer, etc.... End of story
