Add Blocking

I like to review the notes and comments by people in the know in the U. H. Forum. Rarely making a comment or asking a question is all that is needed.
Now I see suggestions about "blocking advertising" in the supposed format that will create another expense. This is not what I expect from the FORUM and will probably drop out of the U.H.F. if this continues.
Good Luck
Guy

Ad blocking software has been around just a little bit less long than the internet. While the ads you are seeing are designed to look like they come from UHH, I'd say that there is a 99.9% likelihood that they are from outside sources just like all the other ads you see. Some of what you "get" to see is random, some is algorithmically directed to you. (I almost never see these ads, but after I post this message, will probably see them for weeks here and elsewhere after key words are detected in my post.) It's just how the system works and how our"free" access is paid for.

Well I rather have the ads than having to pay. I don't think forum like would exist if the operators don't make any money from the ads.

This is a free forum, not a paid educational resource. Advertising is what supports its existence. The ads do not disturb me or encroach on my usage or participation. I can read or ignore the ads at my own option. If I find an ad annoying, distasteful, on not at all interesting, I can click to have it removed from my feed. I certainly do not mind ads from photographic suppliers. There are ads in photography magazines that I paid for. We live in an enterprising and capitalistic society.

If I want commercial-free television, I have to pay for it. If I want private online lessons or tutorials, I have to pay for them. Commercial free- television is supported by donations so all the concerts and events are accompanied by fun-raising efforts.

Even websites and publications in professional photographic associations and societies are sponsored and supported by advertisers.

If for some reason, you don't feel that participation in this forum is helpful for yourself or others, you can unceremoniously pack it in. If you find it useful, you can continue to participate and try to help make it better.

At the end of the day, the quality of any online form is dependent on its members. The admin can keep it online, do some organization and moderation but can not singlehandedly and unilaterally make it successful or appealing for everyone. Advertising comes with the territory.
