Went to the local camera store today to see a demo from Nikon Rep on the new Nikon Z9.
Won't bore you with all the details you can look up for yourself, 20FPS in RAW, 45MP, weather sealed, etc, etc.
It was quite the beast. It was very impressive. Asked about the body, a 100-400mm F4 (I think) and the 2 approved memory cards - in the $9,000.00 range. Order today and might be in your hands by April or May. If you have a fat wallet or high limit credit card go for it!

Don, nobody needs such an expensive camera to make good images and certainly not all of us here need 45 Mp. As impressive as the Nikon Z is the camera will satisfy the needs of a professional or as you said, it will satisfy those with a fat wallet or bank account. It is not an amateur camera for sure.
The other Nikon mirrorless bodies do very well and right now their price is very attractive.

I use old Olympus gear as my mirrorless system. For sure the new camera is not for me.

Maybe you can get a discount if you buy 5 or more…

I agree with your comments papi. I think that for some, it's going to be more of a status symbol rather than a tool. At that price I wouldn't buy one even if I could afford it.

Lot's of people buy $5500 camera bodies.
You don't think Nikon would price themselves out of the market?

For non-professionals it isn’t a question of need, it’s a want. Some buy very expensive autos while one that 1/4 of the price will also get them to & fro. Do what you want & others will do what they want.

YES; The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.

Although I'm satisfied with my D750, I would be glad to accept a Z9 for a year of testing. I wouldn't charge a thing for this service.

As a sports photographer, I'm expecting the Z9 to lead my total transition to mirrorless. If that turns out to be true, I'll be offering some very nice used lenses here on UHH. Happy Holidays to all.

I am looking forward to your hand me downs, providing the price is right.

Gotta be honest, if I had a spare 10 grand laying around, I think I'd buy a car instead. (unfortunately, not a choice I have to make, 10 grand really is a lot of money to me. Bad health has cleaned me out)!
