Bad news for Nikon. If you can't fulfill the orders quickly you're bound to lose your business. One of the big success of Apple every time they release the new Iphone is that although they have a lot of orders at launch time they had enough phones for everyone who wants one.

You are living in a dream world. Apple has screwed the pooch MANY times with its delivery, and its availability in stores of product or by direct shipment. I have experienced that many times and have owned virtually every iPhone. Apple has done many glitzy showy releases and quickly sold out due to demand. Which has bolstered their bottom line in the end.

Same thing is happening to Nikon. Overwhelming demand for a good product. It was predictable and was so stated by many Nikon supporters who knew what the Z9 meant to their existence. Nikon is back. It will thrive. If they lose customers its because they weren't customers in the first place.

Same thing happened to the new Corvette. They sold all allocations in the opening of sales and are 18-24 months behind in production.

Everyone who knows Nikon expected this. Remember the D850 rollout disaster and more recently the 500mm pf disaster. They are always late with new products, and always underestimate the demand. I put my pre-order in on the day of the announcement with a large brick and mortar store here in Houston. I did not order direct from Nikon because I did not want to risk it getting lost in shipping. I am hoping to have it in my hands sometimes mid next year. Right now the pre-orders alone rumored to be about 40,000 have swamped their manufacturing capacity of 3500 units / month for about the next year. IMHO, it will be worth the wait.

Like you, we ordered from the local store. We want to make sure we always have local store. We placed the order before we knew the price.

Notice regarding the release date of “Z 9” and related products and product delivery

December 08, 2021 Product information

Thank you for your continued patronage of Nikon products.

We are pleased to inform you that the release date of the full-size (Nikon FX format) mirrorless camera “Nikon Z 9”, which was announced to be released within 2021, has been decided on December 24th (Friday).

In addition, we have received a large number of reservations for “Z 9” and related products, which exceeds our expectations. For this reason, we may not be able to deliver the product to customers who have already made a reservation on the day of release. In addition, we are considering increasing production due to the favorable reception of orders, but due to the influence of semiconductor shortage etc., it may take time for products to be delivered even to customers who make reservations in the future.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to customers who are waiting for this product.

We will do our utmost to deliver the product as soon as possible, and we appreciate your understanding.

Scheduled release date: Friday, December 24, 2021

This is the way things are now.
Accept shortages and long delays.
I can not get EPDM any earlier than 11 months out now.
It used to be an in-stock item.

Nah…people will just wait or not. Some folk might abandon Nikon for Sony or Canon but if you don't want to switch…and many don't for a variety of reasons from glass investment to muscle memory to menu system dislike to color quality in Nikon files…then you're not going to switch. A lot of folks have switched to the a1 because it's the bestest camera ever and will forever be so…but most people can't or won't afford to chase the inevitable "new shiny object".

Did Nikon ever actually say it was Dec 15 or is this the first official statement? I've seen the date bandied about but don't really know the source of the information and since a built in grip body simply isn't something I will spend money on I haven't really followed the details of the release date. I'm way more interested in what the improved firmware in the 9 means for improvements in other models like the Z6II/Z7II. They've got dual processors and while even Nikon says that the Expeed 7 is better than the dual Expeed 6…given the improvement in the original Z6/7 with their recent firmware update there is obviously room to improve the II model's performance as well. It won't be to the level of the Z9 since some of the improvement there is hardware…and Nikon is unlikely IMO to release an update to the II models until after the Z9 ships, but given that Nikon has released updated firmware for older models a lot it certainly seems like we'll see an update for them at some point soon.

I am not surprised. It seems like I have heard of some other stuff that was hard to get for the last few months.
They started putting tile in one of the bathrooms at our house yesterday. Have been waiting on it since February.
We have the Z9 ordered and have been to two different showings of it. I think it will be worth the wait. If anyone
knows where you can get gas for less than $3.00 a gallon let me know.

Middletown Ohio 2.99 yesterday.

Best we can do in the U.P. of Michigan is $3.10 Green Bay is about $3.00 and it is worth the drive. Not tonight as we expect 13 inches of the white stuff from hell by noon tomorrow.

It was tough to get a D850 when it first came to market, and there were no chip shortages back then. High demand creates its own set of problems.

I remember it being tough to get any new Nikon since I got interested in the Nikkormat FTn in 1967! It always seemed like they would tease the arrival of their new toy about six months before it was generally available off the shelves of most dealers.

I will never understand companies who do this. They lose lots of sales to alternative suppliers — not sales to their existing customers, but sales to new customers who would have bought their first model. They miss that opportunity for "lens lock-in."

Do shipping dates matter right now if they can't get the ships to the docks, nor the containers off the ships and on to trucks?

Could they be shipping by air?
