When I lived in the San Fernando Valley, my house was situated right over the flight landing path to Van Nuys Airport. (That airport is the 3rd largest small plane airport in the U.S.). At one time, it also was the airport for the 403rd airlift wing. There was a lot of noise!!! But, over time, like any other problem, you get used to it.
If you don't want the noise, DON'T BUY A HOUSE NEAR AN AIRPORT! It is just that simple...
Maybe I'm weird but the sound of a warbird revving up is so relaxing to me.
I still remember the 52's and the 36's (6 turning 4 burning) over the 500 area @ Bliss, landing at Biggs. Quite often one of the turning ones was feathered... we usta hafta GI the tire marks offa the roof of Bldg 514.
I earth googled bldg 514 and it still had the surplus radar mount we put on the roof to hold a 3 element 10 meter beam in March 1957. I dont know whether this is true or not, but we had a treaty with Mexico to overfly Juarez...

yeh, I grew up in VS before moving to Islip then Saugerties. when in Islip my wife bought a couch from some guy who had just sold his house somewhere down along Peninuslar blvd in far rockaway.
I grew up in East Rockaway, and I drove hundreds of miles on Peninsular Blvd. It was a four-lane divided highway with a 30 MPH speed limit. Ridiculous!
When I was a kid, I was driving at 30 MPH with a cop just off my left quarter. After several miles, he pulled me over and asked why I was driving so slow. You just can't win!
The recruits and drill instructors at MCRD San Diego don't appreciate the noise from San Diego International Airport, especially on the parade deck. When you follow the last command you heard, sometimes the rest of the platoon is headed in the opposite direction. A few weeks in to boot camp and you wish you didn't have to hear those planes going someplace where you'd rather be than there.

People will buy a house next to an airport and then complain because the planes are making noise, go figure!!
