I will be in Sedona the first two weeks of January. I know several of the main photo spots, but I’m looking for some off the beaten path spots to photograph. I can hike all day, but my husband has sciatica and can’t go far, so both hiking and driving spots would be great. The surrounding areas would be good too! We have a keep so 4 wheel drive roads are fine.
Thanks Beth
Sorry, but all that impacts me going through Sedona is crowds and roundabouts. I recommend the area around Flagstaff in general…but maybe not January. I’d head for lower elevations e.g. Tucson.
An advantage in January should be low traffic.

One place requires almost no effort. Pull into the parking lot of the Mariposa Grill. I think they have one of the best views in Sedona.
So much to see in the area. Been a few years - HWY 89A Sedona / Flagstaff. Flagstaff its self is very photogenic. Taliesin West if you like Frank Lloyd Wright, the Arizona Biltmore is fantastic, you could spend a week photographing that. The Desert Museum, wonderful florals. There are all sorts of 4WD guided tours in Sedona, probably a time saver. Oak Creek Canyon a must. I had been to Grand Canyon, so didn't revisit. Arcosanti, and Soleri's residence and workshop. Never hit a bad restaurant, be bold. You will have a great time even without a lot of walking.
We had a great visit to Montezuma’s Castle, also operated by NPS, about 20-30 minutes south of town.
All our time was walking on paved surfaces, probably less than a mile total, with several areas to rest.

Camp Verde historic location.
Definitely Montezuma Castle and Well.
Clarkdale and the Copper Museum is amazing.
Sycamore Canyon.
Verde Canyon RR if open this time of year.
Tuzigoot National Monument.
Jerome.
These are just a few minutes south of Sedona proper and far superior to the tourist trap of Sedona.
North a few minutes:
Slide Rock.
Oak Creek Canyon all over.
The rim view from the upper end of Oak Creek Canyon.
For those who can hike easy trails West Fork is awesome.
Again these all and dozens of other close by places way out distance Sedona and the typical over and over me too shots everyone has ad infinitum.

Well Beth, any hiking destination in Sedona is the right one and it's hard to beat the incredible driving locations that are available, especially to someone in a 4x4. But for a local shopping outing ya gotta hit Tlaquepaque (Google it for more). It's a re-creation of a Spanish Villa that's full of unique shopping venues and the photo ops are almost endless. For January, you're sure to miss the crowds so a walk down the main drag will provide ya with lots of scenery and more photos.
Enjoy;

I would suggest taking the hike to get good views of Coffee Pot Rock. It's a pretty easy walk.

Thanks! We have a Jeep Cherokee, can we do the same trails as the Pink Jeep tours? I much prefer my own ride as you can stop for photos.
Thanks for the links, I think I have been to the first one years ago. I do know of the second one, but want to do it again!!! Appreciate it!
