I have 4 9" photo frames running all the time in the house. We don't always look at them but find it very nice if we catch a picture that pops up that we really like. Could be a recent photo or a pic of family from 60 years ago. Fun to just have there.......

Maybe I'll try one again.

I have a frame on my kitchen counter that runs on a SD card, now with nearly 10k images. I just let it run 24x7. You never know what you'll see as you walk by and pause for a few frames. I have a collection in LR that I add new images into the collection as I finish editing. After maybe 100+ images have been added, I remember to re-run the Export of the entire collection and replace the contents onto the SD card in capture-date order. As I'm always editing / re-editing older work, the collection picks up any older changes as well as the new.

I do the same with a Sony frame on my desk.

My hallway shelf was loaded with miscellaneous size and shape frames of my favorite snapshots of kids, grandkids, parents, siblings. It had become very, very busy, and walking thru the hall just felt cluttered.

Then our son gave my husband a US flag-style challenge coin display that fit perfectly along the back wall of the shelf. I took pictures of all of the photos in their frames, cleaned and them up (using my newly acquired Photoshop knowledge) and put them into a shared Photos album. I use a retired iPad to display them in a slideshow, and now one of those β€œfavorites” shows up as I pass by, causing me to pause, recall the memory and smile.

I have another retired iPad that displays my best/favorite photography shots, from a different shared Photos album, that runs in the guest bedroom; that album is also the screensaver on our living room TV.

I received a digital photo frame for a birthday present. I loaded up a lot of photos and it works great. I take it out of the cupboard and turn it on whenever the person who gave it to me comes to visit. I prefer to frame a few of my best photos and hang them on the wall. I change them whenever I want to look at different photos.

Not sure how you are comparing a digital photo frame with a table?

There are plenty of digital photo frames on the market, and they are a lot less expensive than they used to be.

Checking Amazon, they seem to run about $150. Seems expensive to me for what they do.

I wonder if they make any frames that run on rechargeable batteries so you can hang it on a wall without a cord hanging down.

Did the same as Paul for years, either edit a card from a recent trip, swap it out of the camera and insert in the device, or load a special one. My frame died after a good many years running in the Kitchen with a motion sensor. New one on order as a self Christmas present. Already have a loaded 64GB SanDisk Extreme partly filled and ready to go. Great fun, we've missed it! Yup, you can do it with an old lap top, or a TV, but the frames are really convenient, attractive, and don't take up a lot of space. The motion sensor is the big plus.

In what sense? The critical tool is Lightroom. I've found the landscape format / aspect of the frame on the counter displays best for landscape-aspect images, so when I finish a new topic for editing, I use metadata filters and filter first to those images in the landscape aspect. Then, I go through and 'star code' the images while viewing the edits in full-screen mode. I don't add every image into the frame, just a small subset that is the essence of that group. I add an attribute filter for the star-code used, and select all of the results with the star-code and add to the collection that is the frame.

I have an LR Export Preset that are the pixel dimensions of the target frame size in pixels. As discussed in Recommended resizing parameters for digital images, you only need a 1:1 sized image to the pixel dimensions of the frame, 1024px on the long-side in the case of my frame. All the technical settings, including the file renaming, are all encoded into my LR export preset. So, the process is just to navigate to the collection, select all, and run the export. For this number of images, it's an hour+ to run in background. I install the SD card, delete all the contents, and copy the output folder from the Export onto the disk.

Thanks, I want to automate the process as much as possible

Right! I'd spend $50 for one, but for $150, I could buy more useful items.

By coincidence, Amazon has two on sale: $104 and $200 - Dragon Touch, 10".

Are digital photo frames are still popular, wouldn't a table preform as well and least expensive?

Christmas just arrived, 10" Nix with remote. A bit smaller than the previous one, but has all the same features, including motion detector and was a very good deal. Setup was just a few minutes, simple, of course I had a Nix before and had an SDHC already prepared.
