My first High School Basketball Game of the 2021 Season.
At my advanced age of 81 plus not sure I would be able to make Basketball games this year.
But, the ole saying "Have Walker then waddle to the Gym"
Waddle I did, and a bit out of practice for sure.
Caught a photo of Year Book kids with their cameras at the game. Always fun when they come up to me, and ask what I have my camera settings on. I always try to help as I can. Due to the Schools budget the kids are shooting with Cameras given to the Journalism Dept., @ the school. Most of the kids shoot in Sports Action Mode. All of their Camera's are Canon. I have donated a Camera to them, and some funds so they now have on 70-200mm f2.8 which is the prize lens for them to check out. The 70-200mm f2.8 is reserved for outside Sports Football, Soccer, LaCrosse for the most part. The kids are sharp, and want to shoot in manual which is tough for the equipment they have. I try to help some by with imparting my limited info.
Photos taken with Nikon D3s, Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 lens @ 1/800 sec iso 6400 or 8,000 for floor actions. Still photos of the girls I dropped shutter to 1/250sec.
Praying the old aching body permits me to keep waddling out to the local games.
I love our Youth, and enjoy watching them have fun.
Merry Christmas Season to all.
Be well, Be blessed.

Nice shots for the first time out. I am only 70 1/2 but knees kill me most of the time. Can't wait to see how they feel at 81 if I make it that long LOL. Yea I try and talk to the yearbook and photography kids to give my limited knowledge and see how they like what they are doing. I also encourage them to keep it going because there is nothing better than sport photography as well as photography in general. Keep posting and hey let me know what you think about my poor swimming photos. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Clearly, age has not diminished the quality of your photography!

Tom,
Great action set of photos and kudos to the year-book kids and the donation, that is awesome. I like the tip-off and the first picture. Do you mostly shoot with the 70-200mm for basketball?
Rick
Thanks Rick,
Yes I shoot with the Nikon 70-200mm most of the time. Some evenings my old arms are tired, and I use the Nikon 85mm f1.8 but find focus is not as fast as the 70-200mm f2.8.
I have a Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 but have never had good results trying to shoot basketball with it.
Thanks for Your comments.
Have a nice day, a Merry Christmas.
Be safe Be well,
Tom
Nice photos, Tom!
I, too, donated a camera (Nikon D200 + battery grip) to my local high school - always nice to hear people doing nice things.
It wasn't worth the trouble to sell, so I took the tax deduction route. Everyone benefits.
